Sensex, Nifty volatile; Zee gains 2%
Share indices erased gains for fear of a likely face-off between the judiciary and the executive of the country.
At 1:45 PM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 34,422, down mere 2 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,652, up 1 point.
Infosys was down 0.15% ahead of Q3 earnings.
Four sitting judges of the Supreme Court today addressed the media highlighting irregularities in the allocation of cases. The Supreme Court is to hear a plea demanding a probe into the death of Judge B.H. Loya, who was hearing the sensitive Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, media reports said.
BHEL has successfully commissioned a 250 MW thermal power unit in Bihar. The unit has been commissioned at Barauni Extension thermal power project of Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd.
All BSE sectoral indices were trading in the red. Among them, realty index fell the most by 2.19%, followed by power 1.02%, FMCG 0.85% and healthcare 0.82%.
The BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices were down 0.60% and 0.39%, respectively.
Volatility index India VIX gained 0.92%.
Zee (+2%), ICICI Bank (+1.3%), Vedanta (+1.1%), RIL (+1%) and Maruti (+0.91%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
Airtel (-1.3%), Adani Ports (-1.1%), Lupin (-1.1%), Yes Bank (-1.09%) and UPL (-1.06%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,010 stocks traded on the NSE, 637 advanced, 1,071 declined and 302 remained unchanged today.
A total of 132 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while four stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
