Most Asian indices up on earnings hopes
Most key Asian indices ended the day on a high, resuming their ascent, supported by US earnings optimism and higher crude oil prices.
However, Japan’s Nikkei 225 extended losses for the third straight day, shedding 0.2% today and 0.3% for the week.
Market sentiment was also supported by custom-cleared trade data from China, which showed swift growth in exports and imports in 2017. However, the growth hit a speed bump in December after a surge in November.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended the day at 31,412.54, Taiwan’s Taiex at 10,883.96, South Korea’s Kospi at 2,496.42, Singapore’s Straits Times at 3,520.37, China’s Shanghai Composite at 3,428.94 and Japan ‘s Nikkei 225 ended the day at 23,653.82.
