Market Now: Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices keep BSE Telecom index down
NEW DELHI: Telecom stocks Reliance Communications (down 5.19 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 4.92 per cent) and Vindhya Telelinks (down 3.92 per cent) tanked in afternoon trade on Wednesday.
The S&P BSE Telecom was trading 0.66 per cent down at 1,564 around 01:30 pm (IST).
Himachal Futuristic Communications (down 3.39 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (down 2.02 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 1.81 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1.01 per cent) and Bharti Infratel (down 1.01 per cent) were also trading in the red.
However, shares of Tejas Networks (up 2.14 per cent), Idea Cellular (up 2.06 per cent), OnMobile Global (up 1.69 per cent), Sterlite Technologies (up 0.91 per cent) and GTL (up 0.35 per cent) were trading up around that time.
Benchmark BSE Sensex was 108 points down at 32,834, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 39 points down at 10,147.
Among the 51 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 18 were trading in the green, while 32 were in the red.
ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hero MotoCorp and Power Grid Corporation were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.
On the contrary, Sun Pharma, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, ITC, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hindustan Unilever were among the top losers.
