Market Now: BSE Smallcap index up; Tinplate jumps 20%
NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Smallcap index was trading slightly up in afternoon trade on Tuesday, outperforming the benchmark index Sensex.
The BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.07 per cent up at 17,584, while the BSE Sensex was 0.10 per cent down at 33,000 around 02:50 pm (IST).
Shares of Sterling Tools (up 20 per cent), Tinplate Company of India (up 19.99 per cent), Action Construction Equipment (up 17.78 per cent), Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals (up 14.79 per cent), Vascon Engineers (up 14.03 per cent) and SORIL Infra Resources (up 12.94 per cent) zoomed over 12 per cent in the smallcap index.
On the contrary, Shalimar Paints (down 8.69 per cent), PTC India Financial Services (down 7.38 per cent), Swelect Energy Systems (down 7.36 per cent) and Jaiprakash Associates (down 7.04 per cent) cracked over 7 per cent in the index.

Reliance Industries, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra, Axis Bank, Lupin and ICICI Bank were among the gainers in the Sensex index.
On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, Tata Consultancy Services, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Sun Pharma and Adani Ports were among the top losers.
